Kids & Kayaking

At kayakLanCo, we LOVE introducing children to kayaking, and the beautiful waterways of Lancaster County are the perfect place to do that.

Learning respect for water and good handling habits at a young age leads to a lifetime of enjoyment.

What’s the process?

We provide proper kayaks and paddles for your kids. These are not toys — they’re the real deal, only in miniature.

We also provide comfortable life jackets for children 20 lbs. and up.

The best plan for 3-5 year-olds is to ride along with an adult. These ride-along kiddos are no extra cost. We provide a cushion for them to sit on in front of you. We can provide them with half of a kid’s kayak paddle, in case they want to “help” you, and when they’re done, you can tuck the half paddle in the kayak.

Generally, 6-year olds and up can begin enjoying paddling their own kayak. Age 6 is just a suggestion. We’ve seen 5-year olds enjoy their own kayak and 8-year olds enjoy riding along with their parent. It’s up to you as parent to decide if they are ready.

Your adult kayak will come equipped with an easy-to-use tow rope. When small arms tire out, you simply clip (and unclip) to your child’s kayak as needed. We’ll show you how during your orientation prior to launch.

How can you help?

Bring water and snacks. Water and easy-to-distribute snacks are helpful for during — and after your adventure.

Have realistic expectations. When making special experiences, it always helps to bring along patience and a sense of humor.

So should you bring your kids?

If you are looking for a fun outdoor experience for your family, wanting to laugh with them, to show them new things (eagles, minks, etc.), and be active together, then bring them along and make some new memories!

Of course, if you want to relax, soak up the beauty, enjoy the peacefulness gliding through the water while chatting uninterrupted with your kayaking companion, then you can always bring the sweet little ones next time.

Get ready for an adventure your whole family will never forget!
