Guided Tour of the Petroglyphs
Join Adam Zurn of Uncharted Lancaster and kayakLanCo for a guided tour of the Susquehanna River's petroglyphs. Beginning and ending at the confluence of the Conestoga River and the Susquehanna, tour members will enjoy learning about the history of the Conestoga River, Safe Harbor Dam, the petroglyphs, Shenk's Ferry and more. The highlight of the tour will be time spent on both Little Indian Rock and Big Indian Rock discovering and viewing the millennium-old petroglyphs.
Each tour will spend 2-3 hours on the water. A little kayaking experience is recommended along with the stamina to the paddle about 2 miles roundtrip. Tour members will receive assistance getting in and out of their kayaks at both Indian Rocks but should know that getting in and out at these islands will be the most physically challenging part of the adventure. What this process lacks in gracefulness will be made up in good humor. Indigenous people consider these petroglyph sites sacred. As a sign of respect, all participants will be asked to remove any footwear while walking on the Little and Big Indian Rock.
